Timothy Burris and Lydia Forbes

Lydia Forbes, violin and Timothy Burris, guitar will present a program of ensemble works by Astor Piazzolla, Manuel de Falla, and Federico García Lorca. Ms Forbes will also play the Tempo di ciaccona from the Sonata for Solo Violin by Béla Bartók (dedicated to and premiered by Yehudi Menuhin in 1944). Mr Burris will play the flamenco-inspired Soléa by the 19th-century Spanish guitarist, Julián Arcas.

Lydia Forbes is best know regionally as a member of the DaPonte String Quartet, but has concertized extensively throughout Europe and the U.K, performing with ensembles ranging from the Zephyr Kwartet, Het Schoenberg Ensemble, and Sinfonietta Amsterdam, to I Fiamminghi, among others. She has recorded with some of the world’s most prominent labels, including Sony Classical and Harmonia Mundi. She has also performed for festivals in Europe, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S.

Timothy Burris, guitar

Timothy Burris has performed throughout Europe and the US, both as a soloist and an accompanist. He appeared in

concert with such esteemed artists as the mezzo Jennifer Lane and the keyboardist Robert Hill, as well as under the

baton of the late Peter Schreier and René Clemencic, among others. Notable among his nine CD recordings are two with

Jennifer Lane and his solo recording Ciaccona, which includes his transcription for baroque lute of Bach’s Chaconne for

solo violin. Mr Burris specializes in music of the Baroque on lute and 19th- and 20th-century repertoire for the Spanish

guitar. A graduate of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and a Fulbright alumnus (Germany), he is on the applied

music staff of Colby College and the Portland Conservatory of Music.
